Parent Councils

Parent Councils are made up of parents with children at the school, the Head Teacher and co-opted members from community groups with interest in the school (such as school chaplains).

The role of the Parent Council is to:

  • support the school in its work with pupils

  • represent the views of all parents

  • encourage links between the school, parents, pupils, pre-school groups and the wider community

  • report back to all the parents in the school (called the Parent Forum)

  • play a role in the appointment of Head Teachers and Depute Head Teachers

  • support the school and pupils during school inspections

How can you get involved?

  • Find out who the chair of Parent Council is and contact them to find out how you can get involved.

  • If you are a parent then you may be able to join the Parent Council if there are spaces. You can also support events that they run.

  • If you are a member of the chaplaincy team or a member of a community group that is already involved in the school you could speak to the Chair of the Parent Council about becoming a co-opted member.
