Emmaus Maze

Most people, if you asked them, where they feel most connected to God, they will say outside. For that reason, creating an outdoor space for children to engage with stories of faith makes so much sense.

Over the last few weeks of term time 260 pupils and staff from both Loudoun-Montgomery Primary School and Glebe Primary School journeyed round Fullarton Connexions’ forest trail, ‘Emmaus Maze’. The maze invites children to step into the Emmaus journey and to see the difference Jesus made and continues to make in our lives.

Spaces, like the one created at Fullarton in Irvine, allow children to not only think about the Christian story, but to find time in an otherwise busy school schedule to simply be. To look up at the sky and everything around them and to be connected to nature.

Neil Urquart, minister at Fullarton Parish Church explained, “What fun these kids had bumping into Jesus, opening Easter eggs to read some of Jesus words, sitting in the Emmaus home to drink grape juice, eat bread, recognise Jesus, and hurry back to Jerusalem to share the Good News “Jesus is alive and the awesome vision of a new world of God’s Love within reach!”

The forest trail remains open 24/7 to anyone and everyone to take a trip back in time to be a fly on the head scarf of the Emmaus two as Jesus opens their eyes to how resurrection hope follows death.
