Pop Up One Day Clubs

On school in-service days, pupils are off school, church halls are often empty, and parents are looking for ways to keep their children busy and safe, teenagers are also usually available to help.  Is this not the perfect opportunity to organise and run a one-day Holiday Club?

For example, it could run from 9am – 3:15pm with the children asked to bring a packed lunch.   It contains all the usual Holiday Club activities:  Bible teaching, singing, memory verse, drama, crafts, games, messy challenges, aerobics and more.

Teenagers are useful as helpers.  Such programmes can also be run effectively on a Saturday or on a school holiday, when a later start-time would seem appropriate.   An Activity Day can ask for a small charge per child to cover costs of craft materials etc or simply ask parents and carers for a donation.

How can you start this yourself?

  • An appropriate venue and a full programme

  • A committed and hard-working team

  • Lovely Church members to come in and provide snacks for the team and for the children

  • Trusted Church members to come and act as doorkeepers

  • A planning group that starts organising at least 8 weeks before the event

  • PVG certificates for all team members

  • An attractive flyer with clear and accurate information, a registration form and an effective advertising strategy

  • A budget from the host Church or a policy of charging per child or requesting donations

  • A band or CDs with suitable backing tracks and a means of playing them

  • Craft materials, and games equipment, plus pencils, scissors, glue sticks etc

  • Permission (licence) to use the songs you want to sing
